Position Summary

We are searching for a practically minded field operator to aid in the deployment of new imagery data capturing technologies as well as assist in the development of new data acquisition systems. In the field, you will test, operate, and maintain the fleet of 3D laser scanners, robotic platforms, solve problems both unforeseen and expected, and ensure the delivery of our cutting-edge data products. When not in the field, you will work within a dynamic and agile development-driven team to assist in the fabrication of new platforms, repair of equipment and process images and laser point cloud from different types of acquisition-scanning systems. Successful candidates will enjoy challenging and sometimes physical work whilst having a strong commitment to safety.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out on-site field operations, including the setup of equipment, facilitation and monitoring of real-time data collection, and quality assurance of collected data, both on land and offshore, domestically in the USA and occasionally overseas.
  • Operate and maintain inspection equipment, including terrestrial laser scanners, UAS, surface vessels, subsea cameras, and novel technological systems, ensuring all equipment is operational and ready for operations.
  • Perform aerial mapping, modelling, and inspection operations using UAS technology in various environments, including critical infrastructure and rugged terrain.
  • Process data both in and out of the field, troubleshoot issues, carry out and coordinate maintenance, and gather data within Abyss standard workflow practice.
  • Provide support for internal UAS pilots and TLS operators in the form of training, troubleshooting, and maintenance.
  • Maintain a high level of awareness of operational personnel safety while mitigating risks to the lowest acceptable level.
  • Interface and collaborate directly with operation personnel, project managers, and the UAS team in the planning, development, and implementation of business unit UAS and TLS applications.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a mid-senior role operating within a technical environment and 3-5 years of direct experience in UAS operations, including offshore and industrial environments, either individually or as part of a crew.
  • Knowledge of laser scanning equipment, software, and data processing techniques, as well as experience operating DJI UAS platforms and familiarity with various payloads and sensors.
  • FAA Certified Part 107 License for UAS operations.
  • Excellent communication, client management, and supervisory skills.
  • Proficiency in data management and software applications related to laser scanning, point cloud processing, and UAS operations.
  • Willingness to travel extensively and work in challenging field environments.
  • A valid driver's license and the ability to obtain necessary clearances for offshore or industrial site access (TWIC, BOSIET, OGUK, etc).
  • Fluent in English and willingness to be in the field >50% of the year.

Highly Desirable:

  • Oil & gas project-related experience.
  • Previous experience working with Leica laser scanning & data registration technologies.
  • Working knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Technical systems integration experience.
  • Familiarity with Linux.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Survey, or a closely related technical field.
