Where and how you can work
Our flagship campus is in Sydney. We also have a campus in Melbourne and co-working spaces in Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide. But you have choice in where and how you work. That means if you want to do your thing in the office (if you're near one), at home or a bit of both, it's up to you.
What you’d be doing in this role
As Canva scales change continues to be part of our DNA. But we like to think that's all part of the fun. So this will give you the flavour of the type of things you'll be working on when you start, which will likely evolve over time.
- Build the best-in-class video editing experiences. You will revolutionise how our customers edit videos in Canva! This is an exciting opportunity to revamp and redesign our video editor to provide the best-in-class editing experiences. You'll lead research efforts, drawing insights to inspire fresh ideas and strategy to enhance the current user experience.You will get your hands dirty and directly solve tricky user interface and interaction design problems in the video space by creating mockups and prototypes.
- Collaboration. Facilitate workshops or collaborative design sessions. Bring together cross-functional peers to align on shared patterns and simplification in the video and multimedia space.
- Stakeholder Management. Communicate directly and frequently with Canva’s founders and other product leadership to keep them informed, involved and in full support of critical design changes. This commonly includes both in-person sessions and frequent async updates via decks.
- Strategy and planning. Work closely with the team’s product manager and lead engineer to ensure the team vision is clear, and all initiatives are broken into valuable but achievable milestones. Collaborate with your triad to create game-plans, milestone plans and other artefacts to align internally on the team and communicate outwardly to the company.
- Communication. You create clarity through your communication by making complex things simple. You can confidently present your ideas and tell a compelling story to the broader team.
You’re probably a match if you have
- Product Design. A portfolio that demonstrates your track-record of working closely with the cross functional teams to set vision, strategy and ship simple, elegant solutions to complex problems. It’s a plus if you have experience in designing for similar editing tools
- Human Centred Design. A deep understanding of user research methodology, and a demonstrably empathetic approach to design.
- Problem-first mindset. You're obsessed with identifying gaps/opportunities and enjoy deeply investigating ambiguous problems.
- Interaction Design. You excel at interaction design and can prototype how particular flows and interactions will work.
- Communication. A confident presenter that can rally the team around a new project and communicate the goals and new concepts to stakeholders.
- Data Fluency. You love using data to evaluate user problems, inform your design solutions and measure success.
- Pragmatism. You know when to be scrappy to get something delivered, and when to push back to really uncover the root user need.
- Strong engineering literacy. You love working with engineers and solving complex technical problems.

The video editor team pushes the boundaries of video creation through simplifying the complexities that come with tradition video editing, led by research. Working collaboratively to build an inspiring vision, we reimagine how users can unleash their full creativity through dynamic content in a way that feels fun and playful.
- The Video Editor’s vision is to be the go-to video playground for everyone. We make easy but powerful tools for anyone to create any playable format.
- You will be responsible for Canva's video editor, the core of video product. This will involve simplifying the complexities that come with video editing capabilities, and reimagining how traditional video editing works.
- With millions of users using Canva every day, this is an opportunity to redefine visual and animated communication and have a global impact on the way people create content for all platforms supporting video content.
- Video touches almost all parts of Canva's ecosystem since dynamic content and rich media is at the forefront of most visual communication from the workplace, to education, through to social media. In the Video Group, you will quickly become exposed to and have the opportunity to create impact to all moving parts of Canva, working in collaboration with individuals across multiple groups.
