About the role

We are seeking a visionary Creative Director to join our Campaigns Art Direction team. As a key player in the Canva Creative Team, you will be at the helm of Canva's brand narrative, bringing our core values, vision, and identity to life through powerful, cohesive, and innovative marketing campaigns. You will lead a cross-functional team of designers, copywriters, strategists, and other creatives, working collaboratively to shape campaigns that resonate with Canva's diverse global audience.

This is a 14 month fixed-term maternity cover contract, with potential opportunities for transitioning to permanent for the right fit. The role requires a strategic thinker with deep creative expertise and an ability to lead and inspire a team of talented creatives. You will oversee the end-to-end creative development of global brand initiatives, ensuring that each campaign aligns with Canva’s mission and resonates across various markets.

What you’d be doing in this role

At the moment, this role is focused on:

Lead Global Brand Campaigns
Lead the ideation, development, and execution of Canva's global brand campaigns, ensuring they are innovative, on-brand, and impactful across all channels (TV, digital, social, OOH, experiential, etc.).

Creative Strategy & Vision
Define the creative direction for global brand initiatives and contribute to the overarching marketing strategy, collaborating closely with senior leadership, product, and regional marketing teams.

Team Leadership
Manage and mentor a team of creatives, providing guidance and support to ensure high-quality output, professional development, and creative excellence. Foster a collaborative, innovative, and inclusive culture within the team.

Cross-Functional Collaboration
Work closely with product, marketing, growth, and analytics teams to align brand campaigns with key business goals, user needs, and market opportunities.

Brand Consistency & Integrity
Maintain a consistent brand voice and visual identity across all touchpoints, ensuring that campaigns reflect Canva’s core values and resonate authentically with audiences globally.

Innovation & Trendspotting
Stay ahead of industry trends and emerging creative technologies, experimenting with new formats and storytelling techniques to keep Canva’s brand fresh, relevant, and exciting.

Performance & Optimization
Collaborate with the marketing and data teams to analyze campaign performance, draw insights, and continuously refine creative strategies to improve engagement and impact.

  • You have 12+ years of creative leadership experience, with a proven track record of executing large-scale global campaigns.
  • You’re an expert in multi-channel storytelling, with a strong portfolio showcasing campaigns across TV, digital, social, and more.
  • You inspire teams to do their best work, combining mentorship, coaching with clear creative direction.
  • You’re both strategic and hands-on, balancing big-picture thinking with attention to detail.
  • You love experimenting with trends and new technologies, keeping your creative approach fresh and forward-thinking.
  • You thrive in fast-paced environments, juggling multiple priorities without missing a beat.

It’s a big plus if

  • You’ve crafted award-winning global campaigns that turn heads and spark conversations.
  • You bring experience working in SaaS, tech, or a rapidly growing digital platform, understanding the unique opportunities and challenges of scaling a global brand.
  • You have a knack for navigating global markets and cultural nuances, creating campaigns that resonate authentically with diverse audiences around the world.
