Job Description

Join the team redefining how the world experiences design.

Hey, hello, hiya, g'day, mabuhay, kia ora, 你好, hallo, vítejte!

Thanks for stopping by. We know job hunting can be a little time consuming and you're probably keen to find out what's on offer, so we'll get straight to the point.

Where and how you can work

Our flagship campus is in Sydney. We also have a campus in Melbourne and co-working spaces in Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide. But you have choice in where and how you work. That means if you want to do your thing in the office (if you're near one), at home or a bit of both, it's up to you.

What you’d be doing in this role

As Canva scales change continues to be part of our DNA. But we like to think that's all part of the fun. So this will give you the flavour of the type of things you'll be working on when you start, but this will likely evolve.

As a Staff Security Engineer in Detection and Response, you will lead the design, development, and scaling of detection and incident response capabilities across a fast-moving, product-driven environment. You’ll bring deep expertise - in areas such as incident response, engineering automations, detections, and threat hunting - where you will be applying hands-on technical skills to build resilient detection systems, automate workflows, and strengthen our ability to respond to threats at scale.

In this role, you’ll be a technical leader, partnering across teams to define detection and response strategies, building scalable capabilities, and mentoring peers across the group.

You're probably a match if you have

  • A strong incident response (IR) background with demonstrated expertise coordinating large scale security incidents and delivering required capabilities across the full IR lifecycle
  • Proven experience in threat hunting and contributing effective detections at scale
  • Hands-on technical experience across all aspects of detection and response, with a focus on scaling through development and automation in a cloud-native environment (e.g. AWS, GCP, or Azure)
  • Proficiency in building automation and tooling for detection and response, ideally in Python, Golang, or Java
  • The ability to thrive in a high-paced, product-driven environment, often working across multiple concurrent work streams
  • An intimate understanding of detection and response capabilities, with a proven track record of building them out in complex environments
  • Hands-on experience using AI in your work to drive greater impact

Beneficial Experience (not required, but helpful)

  • Knowledge and experience with Kubernetes and containerised production environments
  • Prior experience designing and running detection systems at scale
  • Familiarity with Endpoint Detection and Response tooling, policy deployment, and managing alert triage at enterprise scale
