Overview

Founded in Melbourne, Australia in 2012, HotDoc is Australia’s largest patient engagement platform with over 8 million app downloads in Australia.

The past 18 months have seen massive growth for our business, our team, and our community. We now work with over 21,000 practitioners around Australia, including GPs, Allied Health, Dental Practices, Specialists, and Optometrists.

We’ve helped over 11 million Australians book healthcare appointments (and counting).

We have ambitious goals to improve the healthcare experience for everyone in Australia with exceptional patient journeys, whilst ensuring a high level of privacy, security and reliability and we’re looking for extraordinary individuals to help us get there.

Unique value of the role

The purpose of this role is to help own the availability, scalability and security for one of Australia’s most loved health brands. Operations has historically been a centralised focus for HotDoc engineering, with a group of senior engineers sharing oncall responsibilities. We’re looking to improve this by expanding our pool of oncall engineers to most of HotDoc engineering, and with that form a central site reliability team to own operational excellence for the company, while also acting as a second-stage escalation for the wider engineering group.

You’ll be reporting to the Engineering manager in our Platform Team. Working closely with the rest of the platform engineers, and engineers from other teams, to help build and maintain a secure and robust platform.

We are looking to hire someone who genuinely cares about improving access to healthcare for everyone in Australia, and who is passionate about security, reliability and DevOps.

You’re just the person we’re looking for if you can demonstrate

  • You’re a socially conscious person who wants to be in a role that positively impacts Australian healthcare
  • Are empathetic and care about doing right by others
  • Take ownership of problems and their solutions
  • Are prepared to speak up and question the status quo
  • You’re passionate about technology, health IT and/or SaaS

  • 5+ years of experience in environments where your role has focused on Site Reliability Engineering, DevOps, Software Engineering or similar responsibilities using cloud-based infrastructure.

  • Proficiency in at last one major cloud vendor (AWS preferred), with good knowledge of cloud systems and products, including container orchestration technologies (e.g., Kubernetes, Docker).
  • Proficiency in at least one scripting language (e.g., Python, Bash).
  • Understanding of CI/CD best practices, rituals and tools.
  • Knowledge of Cloud Security best practices (key management, AuthN/AuthZ, secure storage/transfer, access governance).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience with monitoring and observability tools
  • Experience writing backend software - in particular Ruby (RoR)
  • Knowledge of infrastructure as code (IaC) practices and tooling (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation).
  • Experience implementing and supporting security compliance frameworks ISO27001, NIST CSF and SOC2
