About the Role
We’re looking for a Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE) to play a hands-on role in modernising and
extending our technology stack in New Zealand. This role is pivotal to the success of our
integration and performance initiatives in the region, bridging local systems with InDebted’s
global products.
You’ll take technical ownership of key systems, drive integrations, and embed modern
engineering practices within our New Zealand operation. This is a role for an experienced
engineer who thrives on solving complex, real-world problems, working closely with both local
business leaders and global engineering teams.
What You’ll Own
- Platform Integration & Ownership
- Learn, operate, and evolve COBRAR, the core New Zealand debt collection system.
- Lead its transition to InDebted standards, ensuring reliability, scalability, and maintainability.
- Integrate COBRAR with InDebted’s Collect platform, enabling a unified product experience.
- Oversee data flow from COBRAR to the AWS Data Lake, improving data visibility and
- analytics.
- Technical Delivery
- Take ownership of email deliverability systems and related automation, eliminating
- dependency on global teams.
- Implement AI-powered automation and other tech-enabled performance improvements in the
- NZ region.
- Ensure all code, deployments, and integrations meet InDebted’s global engineering standards.
- Collaborate with global engineering to align on architecture, CI/CD, and security practices.
- Customer and Business Impact
- Work closely with the NZ Managing Director to translate business priorities into technical
- outcomes.
- Participate in discussions with clients and partners to understand requirements and deliver
- scalable solutions.
- Provide technical insights and feedback to accelerate onboarding, performance, and
- compliance outcomes.
What We’re Looking For

- Must-Have Experience
- 6+ years of software engineering experience, ideally across backend and integration-heavy
- systems.
- Strong coding skills in one or more of: Go, Python, .NET or Node.js.
- Proven experience working with AWS Serverless architectures, Terraform, and modern
- DevOps practices.
- Understanding of system integrations, APIs, and event-driven design.
- Experience migrating or integrating legacy systems into modern cloud environments.
- Solid grasp of data engineering or ETL processes for analytics or reporting.
- Nice to Have
- Experience with financial services or debt collection systems.
- Exposure to email deliverability or customer engagement tooling.
- Knowledge of Domain-Driven Design and clean code principles.
- Prior experience in forward deployed, solutions, or embedded engineering roles.
- Familiarity with New Zealand or broader ANZ regulatory and compliance environments.
