The opportunity
We are seeking a proactive and commercially astute Commercial Business Partner to join the Commercial Finance team at Pet Circle. This role is a key strategic partner to key business functions, with the primary goal of leveraging data to drive decision-making and enhance profitability. The role will report directly to our VP Commercial and FP&A, and play a critical role in enabling sustainable business growth. The ideal candidate will have a customer-first focus in all their analysis.
What you’ll be doing
- Commercial Analysis: Monitor revenue trends and margin performance to develop a deep understanding of the business and identify trends, insights, and opportunities for optimisation. Conduct regular analyses of revenue velocity by order, category, and product to gain insights on range and promotional effectiveness, and continually review gross margin to identify optimisation opportunities.
- Performance Reporting: Tracking key performance indicators (KPIs) including weekly business review (WBR) metrics and providing actionable insights to business stakeholders. Leveraging data to drive continuous improvement and enhancing reporting accuracy and efficiency.
- Marketing & Customer Insights: Collaborate with the marketing team to understand the financial impact of marketing initiatives, providing insights on how they influence revenue and margin, and ultimately, customer acquisition and retention.
- Planning and Forecasting: Collaborate closely with the Merchandising and Planning teams to develop annual budgets and provide ongoing forecasts to inform strategic adjustments. This includes building and maintaining economic models to support investment decisions and ensuring benefits are embedded in the plan and forecast.
- Investment Analysis: Building business cases and managing economic models to support investment decisions, tracking benefits, and ensuring they are incorporated into plans and forecasts.
The ideal toolbox
- Qualified accountant with at least 5+ years of experience in commercial finance roles
- Demonstrated experience as a commercial and finance business partner in a similar role, preferably within a FMCG or retail business.
- Strong analytical skills with a customer-first mindset, and the ability to translate operational metrics into financial outcomes.
- Proficiency in data visualisation tools (preferably Looker studio) and experience working with large data sets
- Advanced financial modelling skills, in particular MS Excel and Google Sheets. Experience in building financial models, business cases, budgets and forecasts.
- Proactive with a ‘can do’ attitude and willingness to learn new things, and comfort with rapidly changing priorities.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to act as a trusted advisor to senior leaders.
Role location
We believe that building connections and collaborating as Pet Circlers is super important. So this role is based in Sydney with a hybrid arrangement of 3 days per week in our pet friendly offices (your pet might love coming to the office even more than you). This is subject to change in line with business requirements.
