Key aspects of this role
We're hiring a Head of Engineering to own the strategy, structure, and culture of our entire engineering organisation. You'll lead our Tech Leads, grow the team, and ensure we're building the right things in the right way as we scale.
- Own the engineering organisation > set the vision for how engineering operates at this company -- structure, culture, and ways of working -- and hold accountability for delivery across all squads.
- Lead and develop Tech Leads > coach TLs to become stronger leaders, build tight feedback loops, and ensure every squad has the leadership it needs to thrive.
- Set and raise the engineering standard > define the technical and cultural bar across the org. Own the outcomes: code quality, system reliability, team health, and engineering reputation.
- Drive AI strategy across engineering > you'll set the direction for how AI tooling is adopted and evolved across the entire engineering org, not just individual squads. You'll ensure we're ahead of the curve, not catching up.
- Own the relationship with the business > you'll be the primary interface between engineering and the rest of the leadership team, translating business priorities into engineering strategy and vice versa.
- Scale the organisation with intention > you'll own workforce planning, hiring strategy, and how we structure teams as we grow. You're thinking about what the org needs to look like in 12 to 24 months, not just today.
You're ideal for the role if you have…
- Led an engineering organisation of 40+ people (essential) > you've managed managers, not just engineers. You know what it takes to lead at scale through layers of leadership, and you've done it in a high-growth environment.
- A track record of setting engineering strategy > you've owned the technical roadmap and org design at a company level. You've made the big calls on architecture, tooling, and team structure and lived with the consequences.
- Thrived in a fast-moving tech startup > you've scaled an engineering org through a growth phase and know how to maintain culture and quality when headcount is doubling.
- Strong commercial and executive presence > you translate between business and engineering fluently and you influence without authority.
- A strong point of view on AI in engineering > you're not just adopting AI tools, you're shaping how an entire organisation thinks about them. You've driven org-wide change.
- Built engineering culture at scale > you've embedded standards across multiple teams, through multiple layers of leadership. You know that culture at this level is set by systems and incentives.
- Bonus: Background in construction > domain knowledge in construction or construction-tech is a meaningful advantage.

Compensation
- Salary based on experience

What happens next
- Shortlisted applicants will have an introductory call [~20 mins]
- Successful applicants will have a whiteboarding session with Nathan and some of our tech leads [~1.5 hour]
- You’ll receive a short assessment to review and prep for final interview [~ 1 hour]
- Assessment presentation and role play with Nathan and other product leaders [~1.5 hour]
- If successful, we will check references & make you an offer!
