Our team across Australia allows for like-minded, talented, passionate people motivated to help us deliver on our brand promise to #LevelThePayingField

At Zepto we believe in the power of positive human experiences, and that a deep sense of belonging creates cohesion in our culture. So, even in a remote-first team, you will be a contributor and custodian of that culture. You will also enjoy solving complex problems, and play a key role in creating something truly special as we focus on delivering ‘a better way to pay’ at Zepto.

The Role You’ll Play

Working within the Legal Team, you will report to the General Counsel and provide internal legal services to support business growth. This is a senior in-house legal role with the core focus of leading strategic regulatory projects and advising on regulatory legal issues that arise from business operations, commercial matters, financial service product development, distribution and disclosures in the payments industry.

Working in a scaleup means you get the opportunity to flex your skills in a variety of ways. We are agile and always willing to roll up our sleeves to get things done. You can, however, expect your day to day to be involved in the following:

  • Provide high quality legal advisory with a focus on regulatory matters. This will include coverage of:
    • retail and wholesale financial service regulatory requirements (not limited to Chapter 7 of the Corporations Act, AML/CTF Act, privacy, New Payment Platform rules, BECS rules and Open Banking);
    • prepare, advise and review of financial service disclosure documents; and
    • advice and review of external facing materials.
  • Act as the lead lawyer in managing strategic regulatory projects.
  • Assist with corporate governance advisory, particularly drawing from expertise and knowledge in governance frameworks that are relevant to regulated financial services business.
  • Provide legal support for the handling of statutory notices.
  • Proactively keep abreast of legislative and regulatory change and advise on the impact of change.
  • Design and provide training to internal stakeholders on legal issues.
  • Assist with internal legal team’s day-to-day operations, including managing external counsel, legal expenses, legal file maintenance and internal reporting.
  • Assist with design, implementation and maintenance of legal policies and procedures.
  • Assist with legal team projects, such as setting up database and automation projects.
  • Work as a team with other legal team members to achieve team objectives.

What You’ll Bring to the Table

Our ideal candidate will have 7+ years of relevant legal experience as a regulatory lawyer and sound knowledge of legal and regulatory requirements applicable to the financial services industry in Australia. You are able to work autonomously and as part of a team, and understand when to escalate matters when appropriate. Your collaboration skills make you a valued member of the team and fundamentally a good colleague to work with.

To thrive within our Zepto environment you will be a highly motivated lawyer who thrives in a busy, high-volume, competitive market where priorities often change. You are confident in leading strategic projects and advising on legal issues that arise from business operations, commercial and corporate matters, financial service product development, distribution and disclosures in the payments industry. You must have rights to work in Australia, tertiary qualifications in Law and hold a current practising certificate in NSW or another Australian State or Territory.
