Job Description

As the Head of Engineering for our Technology Foundations stream, your responsibilities will be as follows:

  • Partner with the Product, Design & Operations leaders to develop of the Product Strategy & Roadmap

  • Lead the delivery teams that are responsible for the delivery of our product roadmap and responsible for practices to help ensure we can deliver predictably

  • Facilitate the continuous improvement of software delivery practices in the teams (i.e. Software Guilds, Training & specific projects)

  • Lead Platforms teams to ensure software delivery teams have the right infrastructure & tools required for them to the end to end delivery of their services

  • Lead Platforms teams on the continual management of our cloud costs

  • Collaborates with Legal, Risk & Information Security to ensure we are effectively managing risk

  • Collaborates with the People team to create an outstanding people experience for the engineering team

Qualifications

Technology skills & knowledge required to lead our Technology Foundations stream:

  • Extensive experience in software engineering - Deep understanding of software engineering concepts and practices. Ideally, former Senior Software engineer or Tech lead who has led complex software engineering projects.

  • Architecture - deep understanding of AWS services and how to compose them into a well-architected solution based on AWS 6 pillars of Well-Architected framework.

  • AWS Services

    • Compute: EC2, ECS, Lambda

    • Data: RDS, S3

    • Networking: VPCs (Hub & Spoke), ALB, NLB, PrivateLink, CloudFront, WAF

    • Messaging: SQS, SNS, EventBus

    • Configuration: SSM, Secrets Manager

    • IAM - Organisations, Identity Centre, IAM

    • Security - Guard Duty, Macie, Security Hub, Config

  • CI/CD - Understanding of automating deployments via pipelines in CI/CD tools (GROW uses Buildkite)

  • Infrastructure as Code - Terraform

  • Containers - using Containers with AWS ECS

  • Logging & Monitoring - Elastic

  • InfoSec - understanding of technology controls used to apply InfoSec controls
